    A beat is about as long as a seconod.

    A whole note is four beets. If you say one dash two dash three dash four at a steady tempo, that equles the lenth of a whole note.

    A quarter note is one beat. If you say one of those numbers, that equles the lenth of a quarter note.

    A eighth note is half of a beat. If you say ONE and TWO and THREE and FOUR and while still keeping the number on beat, it would equal four eighth notes. If you said two of those ( like 1+ ) it would equal one beat, or two eighth notes. If you just said one of those ( like and ) , it would equal one eighth note. If you have ONLY two right next to eachother, it would look like this.

    A sixteenth note is one forth of a beat. If you say ONE e and a TWO e and a THREE e and a FOUR e and a while still keeping the number on beat, it would equal sixteen eixteenth notes. If you said four of those ( like 1e + a ) it would equal one beat, or four sixteenth notes. If you just said one of those ( like e ) , it would equal one sixteenth note. If you have two, three, or four right next to eachother, it would look like this.
